The best-selling author of Take Aim: How to Get Noticed and Hired in Tough Times, Joy Cohen is an expert in job searching, LinkedIn, and resume writing. Based in Calgary, Joy works in private practice as a career and human resources consultant and an employment counsellor, providing services to job seekers and companies, primarily in Alberta’s oil and gas sector. She produces roughly 500 resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles annually, and facilitates numerous individual and group coaching sessions when she is not writing. Joy’s 10-plus years of consulting experience spans four key areas: career and employment advising, recruitment practices, resume development, and facilitating diverse adult learner groups in person and online. Her industry career advising experience includes education, health, manufacturing, construction, government, telecommunications, geosciences, engineering, and oil and gas. She has worked successfully with job seekers from blue collar through to executive and C-suite candidates. Joy is a registered professional recruiter, and a certified professional resume writer. She holds a bachelor’s degree in human services. Prior to starting her own consulting firm, Joy was a registered social worker for many years and worked in the non-profit sector, providing employment counselling and crisis services to vulnerable Albertans and their families. Joy is a sessional instructor at Bow Valley College, at the School of Community Studies and Creative Technologies, and at the Chiu School of Business. She is also cofounder of Options 45, a networking group for mature job-seekers in Calgary.
