I Got My APEGA License! Now What?

April 26, 2019 — 8:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m.

Being granted an APEGA professional license is a major milestone in an Alberta engineer’s or geoscientist’s career. Many of us know that a professional license opens the door to many exciting and rewarding career opportunities.

But with great privilege comes great responsibility. Many of us lose sight of the fact that a professional license also comes with expectations and obligations. Starting with an overview of the expectations and obligations as expressed in the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act, the General Regulation, and APEGA’s standards and guidelines, our panel will provide their perspective on how we can perform our duties while protecting the public interest.

Learning Outcomes & Materials

  • To define the practice of engineering and geoscience as per the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act
  • To review the professional obligations implied in APEGA’s Code of Conduct and its five rules of conduct
  • To review the membership categories and the different practicing statuses permitted by APEGA
  • To inform the membership on the role of APEGA Professional Practice in developing professional practice standards, educating licensed professionals about the standards and guidelines, and evaluating licensed professionals and the permit holders against the standards
  • To engage in generative discussion on professional practice issues of interest to the membership
