APEGA Summit Awards

The APEGA Annual General Meeting and Conference is a leading gathering of professional engineers and professional geoscientists in Alberta. It brings together members, permit holders, government representatives, and other professionals for three featured events over two days: the Annual General Meeting, the Summit Awards, and the Professional Development Conference.

This year’s event will be held at the Edmonton Convention Centre on April 23 and 24, 2020.

APEGA’s annual award show, recognizing excellence in professional engineering and geoscience, as well as the valuable contributions APEGA members make to their communities.

Annual General Meeting

Take the opportunity to discuss issues important to engineering and geoscience in Alberta, vote on important matters, present motions, and meet the new President of APEGA.

2020 Conference Schedule

Staying current in one’s field and being aware of trends is a challenge for every professional. The 2020 APEGA Professional Development Conference offers you a choice of 20 educational sessions and 2 plenary presentations over a day and a half, featuring engaging and practical sessions for engineers and geoscientists.

Participating in this annual conference will help you learn and network with your peers while you earn up to 10 Continuing Professional Development hours. Your custom conference session selections support your own unique learning and development needs, and apply to professionals across disciplines and industries.

The first day of our conference is all about professional development. Start your morning with this year’s plenary from Dr. Wendy Okolo, Special Emphasis Programs Manager and Research Engineer at NASA.

After the plenary, there are 16 PD sessions to choose from. Choose wisely, you only have time for four sessions! The 2020 PD theme is Building Better with sessions ranging from four streams:

  • Technical Knowledge
  • Members
  • Careers
  • Business Knowledge

After all that learning, take a break and join us for a catered dinner and recognition of excellence in the professions at the APEGA Summit Awards.

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to network and visit select exhibitor booths. Exhibitors will showcase all kinds of valuable tools, resources, programs, services, and information. Lunch hour and exhibitors will be located in Salons 10-12 on the Meeting Level of the Edmonton Convention Centre between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.

The trade show will be up and running throughout the day. Be sure to stop by and check out the exhibitors on session breaks!

Note that there will not be a luncheon speaker during the lunch hour.

Our first day of learning and networking ends with a bang. Join us for a catered dinner and celebration of excellence in engineering and geoscience in Alberta. The Summit Awards include up to 11 awards honouring individuals, teams, and projects that have changed their communities for the better.

The second day of the APEGA Conference begins with a Plenary from Prof. Andrew Pelling, PhD, scientist, entrepreneur, and TED Senior Fellow.

After the plenary, there are 4 more PD sessions to choose from. Choose wisely, you only have time for one!

Be sure to join us for an engaging afternoon at the AGM Luncheon and the Annual General Meeting. The afternoon closes with the opportunity to catch up with colleagues and friends at the Post AGM Reception.
