The APEGA Annual General Meeting and Conference is a leading gathering of professional engineers and professional geoscientists in Alberta. It brings together members, permit holders, government representatives, and other professionals for three featured events over two days: the Annual General Meeting, the Summit Awards, and the Professional Development Conference.

This year’s event will be held in Calgary’s TELUS Convention Centre on April 25 and 26, 2019.

Take the opportunity to discuss issues important to engineering and geoscience in Alberta, vote on important matters, present motions, and meet the new President of APEGA.

Professional Development

A huge selection of educational sessions, hand-picked to be engaging and relevant for professional engineers and professional geoscientists in Alberta. Earn up to 10 CPD hours while networking with your peers!

Summit Awards

APEGA’s annual award show, recognizing excellence in professional engineering and geoscience, as well as the valuable contributions APEGA members make to their communities.

2019 Conference Schedule

Staying current in one’s field and being aware of trends is a challenge for every professional. The 2019 APEGA Professional Development Conference offers you a choice of 24 educational sessions over a day and a half, featuring engaging and practical sessions for engineers and geoscientists.

Participating in this annual conference will help you learn and network with your peers while you earn up to 10 Continuing Professional Development hours. Your custom conference session selections support your own unique learning and development needs, and apply to professionals across disciplines and industries.

The first day of our conference is all about professional development. Start your morning with this year’s plenary from Jill Heinerth, Explorer-in-Residence with the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.

After the plenary, there are 24 PD sessions to choose from. Choose wisely, you only have time for four sessions! The 2019 PD themes are:

After all that learning, take a break and join us for a catered dinner and recognition of excellence in the professions at the APEGA Summit Awards.

Challenging the Unknown
Audiences are inspired by Jill’s upbeat, multimedia presentations to reach beyond their limitations, challenge the unknown, and overcome their fears. She shares remarkable experiences and lessons learned in the deadly arena of extreme underwater exploration and adventure filmmaking, applying her practical knowledge to talk about lessons on risk management, discovery learning, failure, and collaboration strategies.

After the kick-off plenary, everyone will break out into a series of sessions hand-picked for relevence and interest. This year’s professional development themes are:

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to network and visit select exhibitor booths. Exhibitors will showcase all kinds of valuable tools, resources, programs, services, and information. Lunch hour and exhibitors will be located in Macleod Hall on the Lower Level of the TELUS Convention Centre between 11:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m.

Note that there will not be a luncheon speaker during the lunch hour.

Our first day of learning and networking ends with a bang. Join us for a catered dinner and celebration of excellence in engineering and geoscience in Alberta. The Summit Awards include up to 11 awards honouring individuals, teams, and projects that have changed their communities for the better.

The second day of the APEGA Conference features a morning of more professional development sessions, AGM luncheon speaker, then the Annual General Meeting.
